Producing a new lawn from seed

New Germination

Producing a new lawn from seed needs careful planning, but can produce great results.

The best time for sowing a new lawn is in the autumn, but you need to plan ahead long beforehand to get the best results.

We recommend that idealy the process should start during the summer when the existing lawn or vegetaion can be killed off two or three times before cultivation to ensure any stubborn weeds and weed grasses are cleared.

Cultivation and soil work should take place during August whist the soil is dry and workable, so the perfect tilth is achievable.  This process may include decompaction, rotovating, stoneburing and grading.

Once the appropriate seed has been selected sowing can be carried out from August through to October.
